Atlanta Junior League Kitchen Tour 2008
Located in the historic Virginia Highlands shopping district, this 1920s Craftsman Style home underwent an extreme exterior and interior renovation. The home was transformed back to its original architecture which reflects the elegant charm of the neighborhood. Homeowners Chris and Gale Weber contacted Lisa Brooks, principal of Brooks Kitchens and Baths, to help with the kitchen design. To reach their goals and desires we faced many design challenges. The kitchen needed to conform to the original Arts and Crafts architecture but also needed to incorporate all the design elements of todays high tech kitchens.
The project began with several design elements incorporated into the space which provided a layout that is not only timeless but includes state-of-the-art appliances and accessories needed for todays busy lifestyle. The process began with the addition of two large Arts and Crafts style windows, strategically placed on either side of the range hood to allow much needed light into the space. Next, several design details were included which added a modern touch of todays kitchen such as stainless steel appliances and hidden custom accessories inside the cabinetry. Some details truly complimented the original architecture such as quarter sawn oak mission style custom cabinetry and artistic mission style accent pieces.
This kitchen is truly a collaboration of design elements that have fused the past and present together, providing a kitchen that is not only timeless but also beautifully reflects the Arts and Crafts historical era.
