Kitchens >> Atlanta Junior League Kitchen Tour 2009
Being asked to design an Urban Style kitchen for homeowners who love to entertain was an exciting challenge. With the home nestled in a historic district close to downtown, the space needed to encompass classic elements along with industrial and simplistic details that the homeowners desired. In order to accomplish this style we chose classic features such as inset cabinetry, honed granite and traditional moldings. We then fused into the design some industrial elements such as appliances, subway pencil stone tiles and simplistic cabinet details to highlight this urban design.
Incorporating unique details into this kitchen is what truly makes the space one of a kind. First we designed a large multifunctional island for entertaining and food preparation. It houses a wine cooler, prep/bar sink, under counter integrated fridge drawers, microwave drawer and plenty of storage. We designed large 9 X 9 tapered legs to bring proportion and scale to the large island. Seating for party guests is not a challenge for this entertaining kitchen; the island has ample space for guest along with a window seat centered underneath one of the kitchens windows. It was important to the homeowner that we eliminate as many entry doors as possible in the space, so we designed a hidden pantry to remove the usual paneled pantry door. It was designed to appear as a large storage cabinet but actually houses the entry doors to the hidden walk in pantry.
This project was exceptional because the homeowner initially presented a few basic desires and our design expounded upon those concepts to create something even greater. The entire project team was empowered to think creatively and add value. We feel that this space and working with the homeowners was one of a kind experience that was not only loads of fun but was truly a blessing. The space reflects so many unique ideas and the result is truly exceptional.
